Gather friends, family and fur friends for this hike nestled in the Hartbeespoort Dam area.

Leeuwenkloof is an events venue offering things like camping, weddings and more. Their hiking trails are known for the route leading through a cave and climbing out on top of the hill.

Some important things to know is that this is a guided hike since there are no markings on the route itself. For this reason, it is important to know that you are required to make a booking with the owner. Your group needs to consist of 10 people. Entrance is R70 per person payable via EFT at least 24 hours before you take off on their route.

The hike is one of the easier ones however not suited for newbie hikers still building their fitness or young dogs still growing. The walk is in the sun with no shade unless you’re walking through the cave itself. For this reason, make sure to pack enough water for you and your dogs especially in the warmer months.

The trail is 9 – 13km, depending on which guide is leading you. There is a dam about 3km before the finish where you can have a braai and relax a little. The water is a good end to a sunny hike for water loving dogs.

The cave does not have any lighting available thus it is recommended to bring a headlight. Cellphone torches proved ineffective in our experience. There is a section with a ladder to climb inside the cave and light will ultimately be beneficial to avoid injury etc.
