Two High Value Treat Recipes for Dog Training
Surf ‘n turf treat recipe by @Blacksodapup
‘I have a chronic problem where I can’t just “make a recipe”, I have to fiddle with the ingedients and quantities. In this case, I added pilchards to a liver bread recipe and ended with what I call “Surf ‘n Turf” treats. It is a delightfully moist, high value treat for my dog!”

Ingredients:
250g chicken livers
215g pilchards in tomato sauce
1 egg
1 cup flour
Method:
1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius. Line cake tin with parchment paper and cooking spray. A 9” x 9” pan works great but two bread tins will also work.
2. Blend the liver, pilchards, and egg until smooth. I used a stick blender, but a food processor works even better.
3. Add the flour and mix until combined.
4. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and smooth the surface with a spatula.
5. Bake in preheated oven for 18-20 minutes.
6. Take out of the oven and let cool in the pan.
7. When cool, cut into small cubes and store in fridge (up to 3 days) or freezer (for up to 3 months). I like freezing it into small portions and taking it out as needed.
Homemade Liverbread Recipe by @nova_the_redmerle
“We’ve been using soft liverbread for training since Nova started her first puppy class. At first, we didn’t have the courage to bake ourselves, but over time we’ve proofed a perfect recipe with chick pea flour which works so well for us.
Nova LOVES it”

Ingredients:
500g chicken liver
2.5 cups flour
1 tablespoon virgin olive oil
1.5 cups water
1 egg
Method:
1. Blend together chicken liver, olive oil, water and egg
2. Place the flour in food mixer. Pour in liquidized ingredients and mix in food mixer for about 2 minutes.
3. You may need to add a little more water if consistency too thick. It should be runny enough to “stand up” for a second.
4. Line baking tray with baking paper and spread mixture evenly
5. Bake at 180 degrees celsius for about 20 minutes
6. Cut into block sizes that suit you and allow to cool. Freeze as needed.
Happy baking and happy training!
Your dogs will LOVE it!
